Hi. I like pinup style very much and today’s tutorial is about creating retro background in pinup style.
The first step – we need to create pattern like this. Just create square and copy it several times to get 7×7 square shape pattern.

Select all 49 squares and let’s make one general shape. "Pathfinder - Add to shape area - Expand"

Next step – copy this pattern. Now we have two similar squares composed from …. yes, squares. Our retro styled background will have "hills" and "pits" so let’s create them. Select the one of the our squares and go to "Object – Envelope Distort – Make With Warp" or press "Alt + Shift + Ctrl + W" if your fingers are dexterous enough.
"Warp Options" window will appear. Set the following options:
Style – FishEye
Bend – 60%
Press Ok.

Select second square and do the same, but set Bend "-60%" (with "minus" symbol)

Now we have two elements to compose our background, but first it would be better to add some color for better look. Select both squares and go to "Object – Expand - Ok".

Select both squares and make right click - select "Ungroup". Then right click again and press "Release Compound Path". Now we can decorate both squares as we wish.

Next. Right click - Release Compound Path

Let’s add some color!

Elements are completely ready and we can compose any sutureless background.

I did this one.

Thank you for reading this!
